Keira Keira

Size: w 63 x h 78 cms

Keira Knightly is a fascination for any cinematographer or artist. I've enjoyed the process of creating these digitail paintings. I paint using photographs as a reference and they become the main subjects themselves, just as Keira's did. I convert these photographs into paintings, stroke-by-stroke, over hours of detailed hours and like to simplify the details in the background to create an ambiguous and timeless space for my characters. As a movie director, I imagine I might just work with her some day, so it helps to get to know her through my art!

Red is not a colour

Size: w 52.5 x h 78 cms

I painted the poster from Sin-City, the movie, because I liked the idea of using the colour red as something that's not just a shade of lipstick, but more as an attitude. The moment women wear red on their lips, it changes their attitude, they get daring and adventurous. Even the quiet and simple woman wears red to show her rebellion and non-conformist nature when she wants to. Women who wear red lipsticks in the cinema world walk the red carpet with more confidence and attract my attention a hundred times more I imagine!

See me, not

Size: w 52.5 x h 78 cms

The aesthetics of an unknown nude, in dark and shade, her contour in light, impresses my imagination, and that's what movies aspire to do. I want my character standing here as a portrait, but shying away by turning her face in hiding.

Glass eyes tales

Size: w 57 x h 78 cms

Winona Ryder has expressive eyes, and in my portrait, the two shiny spots on her eyes tell so many tales each time I take a look at it, so for me, her personality overpowers any character she plays in her movies. If I get to work with her some day, a few expressive close-up frames capturing her eyes would do the trick in narrating a scene easily!

I make the maker

There are no words to express my admiration for Stanley Kubrick. Portrayed as a young man in my sketch, I feel like I have known him though his films, and more so by having sketched him now.
